After the first Arkansas Counts Complete Count Committee meeting, the Arkansas Impact Philanthropy team asked “Get Out the Count” subcommittee co-chair Mireya Reith, who is also executive director of Arkansas United, to share her reflections on the conversation. What stood out to us? The likelihood Arkansas’s immigrant communities may be greatly undercounted in the 2020 U.S. Census. Why? One question that has not been asked in the census for 60 years: “Are you a U.S. citizen?” Many immigrants may avoid participating in the census because they fear this question.
